Dr. Deborah Lindquist Marks 25 Years of Service to Sedona Cancer Patients

February 10, 2014

SEDONA, Ariz. (Feb. 10, 2014)—Dr. Deborah Lindquist, a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with Arizona Oncology—an affiliate of The US Oncology Network and US Oncology Research—marks 25 years of service to northern Arizona-area patients this month. She began treating patients here in February of 1989.

“One of the things I really love about Sedona is how open-minded people are,” Dr. Lindquist said. “They’re open to many modalities of medicine. Plus, it’s just a beautiful place to be. When people are receiving chemo treatments and they look out at the Red Rocks, it’s helping them heal.”

Originally from St. Cloud, Minn., Dr. Lindquist is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Disease. She’s currently the research leader for the Arizona Oncology sites of care in Northern Arizona, which include Sedona, Cottonwood, Flagstaff and Prescott Valley. Through US Oncology Research, Dr. Lindquist had the opportunity to be the principal investigator for two breast cancer clinical trials. Additionally, she will be heading up a new breast cancer trial that is scheduled to open in the next few weeks.

Dr. Lindquist said it’s rewarding to provide patients cutting-edge cancer treatment in their hometown. “I have the best staff, too, so the patients are really well taken care of.”

She was first drawn to oncology and hematology as an intern working in an acute leukemia division. She also researched stem cells during her residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.

“I had a wonderful professor who melded science with the care of patients and their families. On my first day, I worked with 25 patients with acute leukemia and it was an amazing experience.”

She foresees oral treatments as the future of cancer care, with medications that are better tolerated by patients.

“We are actually coming up with new treatments for certain cancers, such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, that look very promising.”

She plans to practice in Sedona for many more years to come, and continue to contribute to the clinical trial research, treatment advances and expert care for which Arizona Oncology is known.

Dr. Lindquist is available for patients at her Sedona office, 3700 West State Route 89A, Sedona, Arizona, 86336. She may be reached by calling (928) 204-4163.
