McKesson Specialty Health Launches Its Successful In-Office Dispensing Solution to Rheumatology and Gastroenterology Providers

In-Office Dispensing (IOD) solution combines advanced technology, managed care expertise and clinical support for community rheumatology and gastroenterology practices

The Woodlands, Texas (November 10, 2016)McKesson Specialty Health has launched its leading In-Office Dispensing (IOD) solution to community rheumatology and gastroenterology practices. Modeled after McKesson’s highly successful physician IOD program, used today by more than 1,000 physicians at 150 sites of community oncology care, the IOD solution for rheumatology and gastroenterology providers combines advanced technology, managed care expertise, and dedicated clinical support to help practices deliver convenient, high-quality care to patients.

Incorporating an IOD offering into a physician’s practice can provide better patient care and outcomes through a more clinically integrated and streamlined process for filling most oral and self-injectable prescription medications. IOD brings value to providers, patients, payers, and manufacturers in two ways: having the pharmacy closer to the patient and having the pharmacy closer to the physician.

“Successfully managing the care of patients with complex rheumatic and gastrointestinal diseases requires practice coordination,” said Randy Hyun, SVP/GM of Provider Solutions for McKesson Specialty Health. “Having the ability to dispense medication at the site of care empowers physicians to stay even closer to their patients.”

In-office dispensing offers patients convenience and provides physicians the opportunity to closely monitor and manage side effects. The more proactive physicians can be in adverse event management, the longer they may be able to keep the patient on the desired therapy, potentially improving outcomes and quality of life.

“Dispensing self-administered medications enables practices to create a strong foundation for their pharmacy and be better positioned for the era of value-based reimbursement,” said Mark Murphy, practice administrator at Kentuckiana Center for Better Bone and Joint Health and co-founder of eBlu Solutions.
