In today’s fast-moving world, immediate contact with customers is often critical but personal contact may not be possible. Some ambulance services use automated outbound calling methods to contact patients about their outstanding balance and payment options. These methods include automatic dialers, automated calls or prerecorded messages to cell phones, prerecorded calls to residential landlines, artificial or prerecorded voice messages, SMS text messages and fax machines. All of these communication methods fall under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act ("TCPA") (47 U.S.C. Section 227) of 1991. The TCPA generally prohibits the use of automatic dialers, automated calls or prerecorded messages to cell phones, except with prior written consent of the called party (or for emergency purposes), and prohibits prerecorded calls to residential landlines without prior written consent. To ensure you are in compliance with the TCPA, please contact your Legal department.
