Building Healthier Communities in 2010 |
A new commitment to managing diabetes and other chronic diseasesMcKesson is proud to improve the communities where we live and work. In 2007 and 2008, the McKesson Foundation donated nearly $10 million, primarily to healthcare-related nonprofit organizations and to support our employees' community involvement efforts. In 2009, we’ve refined our strategic focus. In addition to our continued commitment to supporting our employees' community involvement efforts, the Foundation's grant-making supported chronic disease management, beginning with a three-year emphasis on diabetes management programs and community health centers. This year, through our Mobilizing for HealthSM initiative, we are deepening our commitment to chronic disease management innovations by funding research that explores the role that mobile phones can play in improving the health of low-income patients with diabetes and other chronic diseases. By focusing on chronic disease management, we can invest in innovative nonprofit programs, lend our institutional expertise to partner organizations, and track the specific health impacts of our community investment efforts. To create more synergy between our community investment programs, we have also focused our employee involvement programs on diabetes. Most notably, in addition to ongoing support for employee involvement in the community, we are aligning our annual Community Days event with the McKesson Foundation's focus area. Our annual walk events around the country will also support the diabetes cause.
