Momentum for McKesson Medication Adherence Programs Accelerates as New Levels of Patient Adoption and Loyalty are Achieved

Scottsdale, AZJune 10, 2010McKesson Patient Relationship Solutions (MPRS), a division of McKesson Corporation, today announced that the reporting technology behind its medication adherence programs won the 21st Century Achievement award by the Computerworld Honors Program.  The best-in-class medication adherence programs, which have reached more than six million patients in 2009 help to improve the overall health and well being of patients. Furthermore, an increasing number of patients are enrolling into the company’s LoyaltyScript® program and adhering more closely to prescribed therapies.

Due to higher response rates from patients and the addition of new LoyaltyScript adherence programs by manufacturers, patient adoption and utilization has increased by more than 65 percent over the past 12 months, and more than 300 percent compounded annually over the past three years. As a result, more than 28,000 patients a day are benefitting from the LoyaltyScript program.

“McKesson’s adherence programs provide manufacturers with customized solutions to strengthen patient relationships and help patients overcome adherence challenges leading to better patient outcomes.” said Peggy Yelinek, vice president/general manager, McKesson Patient Relationship Solutions. “The consistent growth of MPRS’ LoyaltyScript program demonstrates that with the right services and solutions, pharmaceutical manufacturers can effectively drive brand performance and patient loyalty though improvement of patient health outcomes.”

McKesson’s commitment to delivering advanced technology solutions to its customers is driving the success of its adherence programs. Specifically, McKesson’s web reporting portal was acknowledged by the Computerworld Honors Program for providing unprecedented program visibility that enables pharmaceutical manufacturers to optimize their programs and reach more patients. The web-based portal, supporting MPRS’ LoyaltyScript, TrialScript® and Pharmacy Intervention programs, gives manufacturers secure access to enrollment, program-benefit data and adherence measures that are updated daily. In addition, pharmaceutical manufacturers can leverage a map of program and prescribing activity by region to effectively improve medication adherence rates for prescribed medication therapies.

“We are honored to be recognized as the industry leader for our superior reporting capabilities by the Computerworld Honors Program and this achievement is yet another example of our continuing commitment to create innovative solutions that serve pharmaceutical brands and the patients who rely upon them to reach their therapeutic goals,” said Derek Rago, vice president of marketing, McKesson Patient Relationship Solutions.  “Today, our manufacturer customers have visibility into medication adherence program activities that they previously never had; with this new insight and ability to act, pharmaceutical manufacturers can design their programs to measurably increase patients’ adherence to prescribed drug regimens and consequently improve therapeutic outcomes.”

About the Computerworld Honors Program

Founded by International Data Group (IDG) in 1988, the Computerworld Honors Program is governed by the not-for-profit Computerworld Information Technology Awards Foundation. In its 22nd year, Computerworld Honors is the longest running global program to honor individuals and organizations that use information technology to benefit society.

Each year, the program’s Chairmen's Committee, a group of 100 Chairmen/CEOs of global technology companies, nominates individuals and organizations around the world whose visionary application of information technology promotes positive social and economic progress. Nominations are evaluated by an independent board of CIO-level judges who select Laureates, Finalists and award recipients, in 10 industry-related categories, to be honored at the Laureate Medal Ceremony.

This year’s ceremony and accompanying Gala Awards Evening will take place on June 7, 2010 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.

The technology achievements honored by this program are preserved and protected in national archives, and in over 350 universities, museums and research institutions throughout the world.

Additional information about the program and a Global Archive of past Laureate case studies and oral histories can be found at the Computerworld Honors website: www.cwhonors.org.
