Name: NathanEducation: Texas A&M University Starting Title: OMD Program Associate Current Title: Six Sigma Blackbelt Business Unit: U.S. Pharmaceutical Distribution Nathan participated in our Operations Management Development Program, where he was impressed by the commitment and investment that the nine-month rotational training program offered a new graduate. After completing the program, Nathan accepted a position as a night shift supervisor. He enjoyed the responsibility that came with the job and the opportunity to apply what he learned in school to real-world situations—all while gaining management skills. Those skills paid off. Nathan is now a Six Sigma Blackbelt. “Basically,” he explains, “that’s a project manager who uses Six Sigma methodology and statistical tools to drive results and improve processes.” Nathan’s job gives him the “flexibility and opportunity to work on various projects that have an impact on the bottom line at McKesson. In order to be successful here, you have to be willing to challenge the current processes and seek better ways of doing things.” In the future, Nathan plans to explore an operations manager or inventory manager role. He likes the idea that he has the opportunity to move in many different directions while remaining with the same company. “The thing I enjoy most about being with McKesson is that my career is completely in my hands.” |
