Bottom Line Results of Improving Communication in the OR
The Naval Medical Center San Diego is a large teaching facility with a high staff turnover secondary to the military rotation policies and frequent deployments, causing a continual cycle of teaching and staff orientation. Timely, accurate communication is essential yet creates a challenge within the unique characteristics of the Naval Medical Center. This webinar shares strategies employed at the center that have been integrated into the process improvement plan, resulting in improved communication among all health care disciplines. Key efficiency benchmarks such as on time starts improved from 31% to 81%; compliance to surgical site marking and medication labeling routinely met 100% as a result of the program.
