August 01, 2006

NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 2006--Dr. Ricardo Guggenheim, vice president of clinical content and design at McKesson Health Solutions (NYSE:MCK), will share his insights this year at the 4th Annual Leadership Summit on Healthcare Quality & Pay-for-Performance. The conference, which begins August 6 in Boston, focuses on advancing solutions for sustainable reward programs to improve quality through standards, aligned incentives and accountability. The agenda is designed to address the market forces and specific challenges of employers and other purchasers, provider organizations and health plans.

A nationally known expert in healthcare quality, Dr. Guggenheim will chair a track on August 8 titled, "Independent/Specialty Physician Pay-for-Performance Programs." The four presentations comprising the track will focus on a wide range of subjects, including the need for employers, health plans and physicians to collaborate on a single set of pay-for-performance criteria to ensure consistent patient care as well as the most appropriate strategies to use pay-for-performance programs in specialty services.

"Successful pay-for-performance programs rely on extensive collaboration between providers and payors, clear performance metrics, and clean claims and coding data," Dr. Guggenheim said. "Coordinating all these variables for optimal results can be difficult, and this conference is an excellent opportunity for those at the forefront of pay-for-performance programs to come together and help other organizations learn from their best practices in achieving and rewarding provider quality."

Dr. Guggenheim has over 15 years of experience working with providers, payors and pharmaceutical organizations. He has led medical management transformation and operations in both national payor and physician management organizations, conducted operational process reengineering in national and regional healthcare organizations, and consulted for private equity investment groups during acquisition feasibility assessments.

Also featured at the conference will be Dr. Maureen Mangotich, chief medical officer and senior director of clinical outcomes at McKesson Health Solutions. Dr. Mangotich will co-present with Dr. James L. Rosenzweig, director of disease management at Joslin Diabetes Center and assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School on "Strategies to Engage Physicians in Medicare and Medicaid Disease Management." They will discuss various physician engagement methods such as pay for participation and provider outreach initiatives.

The three-day conference, which takes place August 6-8 at the Marriot Copley Place, is co-sponsored by The Wall Street Journal.
