McKesson Health Solutions , a business unit of McKesson, has again received Full Core Reaccreditation and Vendor Recertification for its care management workflow solutions by URAC, a Washington, DC-based organization that establishes quality standards for the healthcare industry. McKesson has received accreditation of three URAC programs, Case Management, Disease Management and Health Utilization Management, since 2003. “McKesson should be commended for its willingness to measure itself against national standards and undergo rigorous evaluation by an independent accrediting body,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. “It is critically important for health care organizations to make a commitment to quality and accountability, and meeting the strict quality standards of URAC accreditation is a demonstration of that commitment.” McKesson’s URAC-certified products are CareEnhance ® Care Manager , which automates and streamlines workflows associated with coordinating the care of a single member at a given time; CareEnhance ® Review Manager , which provides browser-based access to InterQual ® Criteria to support alignment of payors and providers in clinical decision-making; and CareEnhance ® Disease Monitor , which uses medical and pharmacy claims to help payors determine when interventions can be most beneficial. McKesson also holds URAC Disease Management Call Center, Health Call Center and Disease Management accreditation. URAC named McKesson’s Personal Health Advisor™ health plan member portal solution a Best Practices in Health Care Consumer Empowerment and Protection Awards finalist earlier this year. “McKesson was the first software company to receive accreditation from URAC’s Vendor Certification program in 2003,” said Rose Higgins, vice president of care management solutions for McKesson Health Solutions. “Our continued pursuit of accreditation demonstrates our commitment to provide quality services and top care management solutions that can help our clients simplify their own URAC accreditation processes.” The URAC accreditation process serves as a framework to improve business processes through benchmarking organizations against nationally recognized standards. To achieve URAC Case Management reaccreditation, McKesson had to comply with strict standards for written policies and procedures, staffing, ethics and confidentiality. For Disease Management reaccreditation, McKesson met rigorous standards addressing program scope and objectives, performance measurement and reporting, population management and program design. For Health Utilization Management reaccreditation, McKesson complied with national quality standards for staff qualifications, UM processes and confidentiality.
