Malcolm Sparrow, Nation’s Leading Authority on Healthcare Fraud, to Present Keynote MALVERN, PA — On March 19, in Washington D.C., McKesson will sponsor a fraud and abuse management seminar, “BringYour Fraud Control Into the 21st Century” providing a forum for healthcare payors to discuss current trends and new solutions for this $90 billion issue. Healthcare fraud expert, Professor Malcolm Sparrow will share current views on this systemic problem, and join peer fraud experts on a panel discussion. Malcolm Sparrow is professor of Public Management Program in Criminal Justice Policy and Management, Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Healthcare fraud and abuse in the U.S. now surpasses credit card fraud and identity theft in dollars lost. This industry-wide problem has far-reaching effects on cost and quality of care. This McKesson educational seminar allows insurers to learn the most up-to-date issues and control strategies so that they can take immediate action. “The dollar amount associated with healthcare fraud is staggering — over $90 billion annually — which is why it is vital that we arm people with the knowledge and tools to face this problem head-on,” said Sparrow. “With today’s tenuous economic climate, it is more critical than ever to act.” The author of several books, including License to Steal: How Fraud Bleeds America’s Health Care System, Professor Sparrow’s areas of expertise cover regulatory and enforcement strategy, fraud control, corruption control and operational risk management. He is the Harvard faculty chair of the Master of Public Policy (MPP) Program, and also chairs executive programs on regulation and enforcement, counter-terrorism and corruption control. Professor Sparrow will be joined at this event by Alana Lavelle, director of investigations, WellPoint, and Douglas Moeller, MD, medical director, McKesson. “Any kind of healthcare fraud hurts the entire system. Money and resources lost to fraud translate into more expensive healthcare for everyone,” said Carolyn Wukitch, McKesson Health Solutions senior vice president of products division. “This is why this event is so important. We want to bring insurers together who want to do the right thing and learn how to manage this issue.” The program will include a session focused on the clinical and technical aspects of fighting healthcare fraud. This event has been approved by the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association (NHCAA) for 5 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) units towards NHCAA's Accredited Health Care Fraud Investigator (AHFI) designation. McKesson is a premier sponsor of NHCAA and supports their efforts to control healthcare fraud through education.
