Disease management, nurse advice services now available to Primary Care Trusts

BROOMFIELD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--McKesson UK, a business unit of McKesson Corporation, has been pre-qualified as a vendor to the Department of Health in the United Kingdom. By meeting the rigorous criteria established by the Department of Health, McKesson Health Solutions, through McKesson UK, now can contract directly with Primary Care Trusts in the United Kingdom for care management, decision support and nurse advice services, to assist in managing the demand for clinical services.

The Framework for procuring External Support for Commissioners, or FESC, will provide Primary Care Trusts with easy access to a framework of expert suppliers who can support them in undertaking their commissioning functions.

"McKesson's understanding of how to provide care management and nurse advice services to health plans, and the state and federal government in the U.S., gives us important knowledge that we can utilize in the work we hope to do with the Department of Health. We’re eager to help the PCTs achieve their goals," said Emad Rizk, M.D., president, McKesson Health Solutions.

McKesson currently provides services to the UK's National Health Service (NHS). For more than 10 years, McKesson has provided data to PCTs and hospitals – based on referrals and care given to patients – through the NHS Wide Clearing Service.

"I am pleased to be able to bring the skills and experience gained from McKesson’s work within the Managed Care Organizations to the PCTs. I believe that our existing experience gives McKesson a strong foundation, which is enhanced by our in-depth knowledge of the NHS and its culture," said Charmaine McDonald, managing director, McKesson UK.
