April 12, 2010

McKesson to Also Share Insights on Solutions That Help to Address Pressing Issues in Healthcare by Improving Clinical, Financial and Administrative Processes

McKesson Health Solutions president Dr. Emad Rizk will join with other healthcare industry leaders participating in keynote panels at this year’s World Health Care Congress (WHCC). Dr. Rizk’s panel will focus on precision medicine and its role as a technological enabler and a cost reducer, and how it relates to molecular diagnostics, early diagnosis and personalized care. His co-presenters include Robert Nesse, MD, president and CEO, Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, Mayo Health System, and Jeffrey L. Kang, MD, MPS, chief medical officer, Cigna.

Rizk has been recognized for two years in a row as one of the 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives (Modern Physician), and is among the current Top 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare (Modern Healthcare). He is a senior scholar Professor at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and last year his book The New Era of Healthcare: Practical Strategies for Providers and Payers focused on methods to forge a partnership between providers and payors. These methods centered on clinical, administrative and economic alignment to bring about more efficient, cost-effective care.

“This year’s World Health Care Congress comes at a key point in our nation’s history as we stand on the brink of healthcare transformation,” said Rizk. “It is vital that we as an industry come together at forums such as this to continue the dialogue around precision medicine, genetic and molecular testing, streamlining more processes by bringing automated intelligence to clinical and administrative decisions. These are only some of the critical issues that will shape the future of healthcare.”

Douglas Moeller, MD, McKesson Health Solutions medical director, will also be speaking at the event, taking place in Washington, DC, April 12-14. He will be participating in an Emerging Trend Forum to discuss molecular diagnostics and how 360° of collaboration between labs, providers and payors can provide earlier identification, improved outcomes and more personalized care. Moeller will be joined by Ann Docimo, MD, Chief Medical Officer, UPMC Insurance Services Division, and Tom Tiffany, CEO and president of Pathology Associates Medical Laboratories.

Doctors Rizk and Moeller will be among those on hand to discuss innovative McKesson solutions such as new technology and content to help payors establish medical necessity and automate authorization processes to support real-time, evidence-based molecular diagnostics decisions at the point of care. Related solutions by McKesson offer an end-to-end, patient-centric approach for care management, and help payors optimize payments including identification and correction for waste, fraud and administrative errors.
