Over 300 Hospitals License InterQual Criteria
May 20, 2008

NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Over 300 hospitals signed contracts last year for McKessons InterQual® Criteria, the gold standard in evidence-based clinical decision support. Continuing its momentum from the prior year, McKesson experienced a 45 percent increase in InterQual hospital sales during 2007.

The preference for InterQual among hospitals is largely due to its continually enhanced clinical content, ease-of-integration into care management workflows and its widespread use among health plans and government organizations that enables them to align their decisions with payors and government, said Tammie Phillips, vice president of InterQual for McKesson Health Solutions. The ability to make consistent level-of-care decisions is vital to all health care organizations regardless of size, specialty or location.

The majority of the countrys hospitals have licensed InterQual products, which include CareEnhance® Review Manager web-based delivery software that automates the review process. Among the new clients are Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois; University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and Alameda County Medical Center in northern California. In addition, the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the largest municipal hospital and health care system in the country, licensed InterQual in the first quarter of 2008.

As the most widely used evidence-based clinical criteria, InterQual facilitates alignment between providers and payors in care management decisions and payment. More than 4,000 health plans, hospitals, academic medical centers and care management organizations as well as government entities and most Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) currently use McKessons InterQual tools, which are the long-standing industry standard in evidence-based clinical decision support. InterQual content is unmatched in clinical integrity, helping to ensure appropriateness of care and increasing confidence in clinical decision-making.
