The Department of Veterans Affairs Renews Contract for McKesson's InterQual Clinical Guidelines
April 06, 2010

VA Will Continue Long-term Use of Evidence-Based Criteria to Support its National Utilization Management Program

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has renewed its long-standing contract for the use of McKesson’s InterQual ® Criteria . An InterQual customer since 1993, the VA will continue to rely on the industry leading evidence-based clinical guidelines to support the National Utilization Management Program for all of its 21 healthcare networks in the 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico.

With more than 1,300 sites of care that include 153 hospitals, over 700 community and facility-based outpatient clinics and 134 nursing homes, the VA is committed to a healthcare system that treats its patient population of approximately 5 million plus effectively, efficiently and appropriately. Focused on enhancing the high quality care it offers and the efficient use of resources, the VA is using InterQual Criteria to help streamline the process of transitioning patients between care settings. The VA will continue to access InterQual through McKesson’s clinical review software, CareEnhance ® Review Manager, for optimal workflow efficiencies.

“Our 17-year relationship with the VA is a testament to the quality of our clinical content and the usability of our software,” said Tammie Phillips, vice president of InterQual for McKesson Health Solutions. “The fact that the VA renewed its contract with us following a competitive and full due diligence process further speaks to how our market-leading content and world-class client service bring value to our customers.”

InterQual is the most widely used evidence-based clinical content, fostering alignment between providers, payors and government agencies and focusing all stakeholders on ensuring that the most clinically appropriate decisions are consistently made. A product based on more than 30 years of continual clinical development, InterQual is currently used by over 4,000 hospitals, 300 health plans and various government programs.
