McKesson Foundation Donates $100,000 to Nonprofit Organizations in the Phoenix Area

“Supporting the local communities where our employees live and work is a core value of McKesson,” said Heather Morel, Vice President and General Manager, Reimbursement & Access Services for McKesson Specialty Care Solutions.  “As the largest and oldest operating company in healthcare, we salute these non-profit organizations whose objective is to enhance the health of the youth across Arizona and are proud to provide this support especially during these challenging economic times.” 

McKesson Foundation grants are presented annually to nonprofit organizations serving the Phoenix metro area and nationwide. Founded in 1943, the McKesson Foundation envisions a world where affordable, quality healthcare is available to all. The Foundation is dedicated to supporting McKesson employees' community involvement efforts and optimizing the health of patients through improved healthcare quality, personal health management and lower healthcare costs.
 
Nonprofit organizations awarded funds from the McKesson Foundation are:

• Arizonans for Children Inc. –  for sponsorship of the 2008 Via Colori event benefiting the lives of children and youth in foster care
• Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix – to provide dental services to 950 low income children
• Communities in Schools of Arizona Inc.– to provide free onsite health care services at Partner School sites
• Crisis Nursery Inc. – to provide free pediatric care to at-risk children Services include assessments, prescriptions, early childhood developmental screenings, and immunization updates
• El Rio Health Center Foundation (Tucson) – to provide immunizations for 15,000 children in Tucson and Phoenix metropolitan areas
• Hands On Greater Phoenix – to support healthcare volunteer programs benefiting children and families
• Mission of Mercy – to provide primary healthcare, medication and disease prevention education to under-insured children and families
• Mountain Park Health Center   –  for implementation of electronic prescribing of medications in the pediatrics department
• Phoenix Day Child and Family Center – to support health screenings and preventative health services for low income children
• St. Vincent de Paul Virginia G Piper Medical and Dental Clinic – to support a children’s dental program serving more than 4,000 local children
• Umom New Day Centers Inc. – to provide health screenings, first aid, education and fitness and nutritional training to homeless and low income families
• Wellcare Foundation – to support health care services for mothers and children with obesity
• The Wellness Community – to provide free educational and psychosocial support programs on cancer prevention and treatment
• West Valley Child Crisis Center – to provide medical care to homeless, abused and/or neglected infants and children
