McKesson Specialty Care Solutions , a division of McKesson Corp., has introduced a fully integrated in-office oral drug dispensing solution that enables oncology and other specialty physicians to prescribe and dispense medications, including oral oncolytics, at the point-of-care. Oral oncology drugs currently comprise more than 35 percent of the oncology pipeline, and the market is expected to continue to grow. 1 In contrast to traditional chemotherapy regimens which are infused into the patient in the oncology office or clinic, oral oncology drugs are not administered in-office – making patient monitoring and patient adherence more challenging. McKesson’s integrated oral drug dispensing solution is designed to fit within a practice’s existing workflow to help drive patient adherence to the prescribed therapy. It incorporates a suite of industry-leading McKesson technologies and services including Lynx Mobile® to support efficient inventory management; the Pharmaserv™ pharmacy system for prescription processing, claims adjudication, billing of secondary insurance, and reporting; and AccessHealth , which will contract with pharmacy benefits managers (PBMs) on the practice’s behalf as well as provide consolidated reimbursement, electronic funds transfer, online claims reports and reconciliation assistance to reduce cash-flow issues. “Medication compliance is one of the most significant issues in medicine, especially with so many new cancer drugs having many serious potential side effects,” said Linda D. Bosserman, M.D., FACP, president of Wilshire Oncology Medical Group, Inc. , which piloted McKesson’s in-office oral dispensing solution. “Piece-meal management will not achieve the same results as comprehensive, in-house management through all aspects of cancer care.” “McKesson Specialty Care Solutions is committed to providing technology, clinical tools and distribution services that help oncologists and other specialty practices improve the quality and efficiency of patient care while reducing healthcare costs,” said Jeff Reinke , vice president and general manager of Distribution and Physician Services for McKesson Specialty Care Solutions. “McKesson’s new in-office dispensing solution helps physicians care for both the health of their patients and their practices.” About McKesson Specialty Care Solutions McKesson Specialty Care Solutions, a division of McKesson Corp., delivers the services manufacturers, payors and providers need to ensure pharmaceutical products, coordinated reimbursement, and clinical services are available to patients with complex diseases.
