5th year of Web-based programs begins with reimbursement and healthcare reform updates

South San Francisco, Calif. –February 25, 2010 – Onmark, a leading national group purchasing organization (GPO) for community-based practices and a McKesson Specialty Care Solutions company, will offer the 5th consecutive year of its CORE Educational Series in 2010.  The CORE series comprises quarterly webcasts delivering critical information, tools and strategies that empower Onmark member practices to maximize efficiency and profitability while delivering high-quality patient care.

The first webcasts in the 2010 series, scheduled for March 2 & 3, will focus on Reimbursement Changes in 2010. The agenda includes updates on the 2010 Medicare physician fee schedule, oncology coding changes, Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI), and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) incentives for adoption of e-prescribing and electronic medical records (EMRs).

John Akscin, vice president of government relations for McKesson Specialty Care Solutions and a 25+ year veteran in healthcare government relations and administration, moderates the quarterly webcast series.  A recognized authority on legislative and regulatory issues affecting community-based practices, Mr. Akscin is joined by industry subject matter experts to address timely topics during each program.  Cindy C. Parman, CPC, CPC-H, RCC, co-founder and principal of Coding Strategies, Incorporated, will co-lead the March webcast focused on reimbursement updates.  She is a past president of the Advisory Board for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and a former faculty instructor for AMA Solutions, a subsidiary of the American Medical Association.

“2010 promises to be a year with significant challenges for healthcare providers,” states John Akscin.  “Through CORE webcasts and other educational events, our goal is to empower Onmark member practices to successfully identify solutions and discover new opportunities to optimize practice efficiencies and patient care.”

CORE webcasts are offered free of charge to Onmark members.  Hundreds of members including practice administrators, billing staff, nurses and physicians from across the United States, participate each quarter.

“Running a successful oncology practice keeps me extremely busy and makes it difficult to keep up with industry changes, “ shares William Viets, business manager for Medical Oncology & Hematology Associates of Northern Virginia. “I find Onmark’s CORE webcasts very informative, and I appreciate the insights they offer to me and our staff throughout the year.”

The CORE series began in 2006.  Past topics have included:

  • Medicare reform
  • Practice benchmarking
  • Quality initiatives
  • Reimbursement and patient assistance programs
  • Marketing and branding strategies for community practices

An archive of previous CORE webcasts is available to Onmark members online.  Members should visit the Events page on www.onmarkservices.com to view the archives and to register for upcoming programs.
