Cancer Centers of the Carolinas' new site provides cancer patients access to advanced therapies and leading-edge technology
Spartanburg, SC (Oct. 6, 2011) - Cancer Centers of the Carolinas (CCC), the largest group of medical professionals in the Upstate of South Carolina devoted to cancer care, began caring for patients at its new radiation facility in Spartanburg, SC. Located at 120 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, the new site provides cancer patients access to advanced therapies and leading-edge technology.
Cancer Centers of the Carolinas’ new comprehensive cancer center in Spartanburg integrates needed patient care services into one convenient location. Medical Oncology, Gynecologic Oncology and now Radiation
Oncology services will be offered in the same location as Cancer Centers of the Carolinas’ existing Medical/Gynecologic Oncology office.
"Access to advanced therapies and technology plays a significant role in our fight against cancer," said Dr. Terese Howes, radiation oncologist with Cancer Centers of the Carolinas, who will practice at the radiation facility. "We are very excited about the opening of this facility because it means people with cancer in our
community can receive radiation therapy close to their homes and their support network of family and friends."
Remaining close to home is particularly important for patients who undergo radiation therapy, as these patients may receive treatment several days per week for more than a month at a time.
Patients will have access to Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and on-board imaging (OBI) with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). The practice’s new services also include diagnostic computed
tomography (CT).
"We are extremely excited to expand our services in Spartanburg to include radiation," said Dr. Kim Hont A. Yee, medical oncologist at the Spartanburg Cancer Center. "Our patients now have the opportunity to receive all their cancer care in one location."
Cancer Centers of the Carolinas plans to hold an Open House event on Thursday, Oct. 27, for the public to drop in and view the new facility and meet physicians and staff.
