McKesson Corporation Chief Executive Officer John H. Hammergren presented with a plaque recognizing and commemorating McKesson for its leadership and support for San Francisco Fleet Week in 2010.
San Francisco, Calif. - Last week, Major General James M. 'Mike' Myatt, United State Marine Corps (Ret.), presented McKesson Corporation Chief Executive Officer John H. Hammergren with a plaque recognizing and commemorating McKesson for its leadership and support for San Francisco Fleet Week in 2010. The plaque was presented at a leadership symposium hosted by McKesson's Military Resource Group (MMRG).
The award recognizes McKesson's continued efforts to support our nation's veterans, active duty service members and their families.
CEO John Hammergren said, "We are truly honored to receive this award from MajGen Myatt. McKesson has an ongoing commitment to honoring and supporting current and former military service members and their families."
The plaque will be proudly displayed in McKesson's Vision Center alongside some of the company's other awards, including the 'Above and Beyond' Award from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for providing support for employees' military duty.
Year after year, thousands of McKesson employees engage in activities to support military service members and their families. For example, McKesson partners with Operation Gratitude, where McKesson employees in offices across the country are currently assembling 20,000 care packages to benefit active duty troops as well as Wounded Warriors and veterans in military hospitals.
Addressing employees, Hammergren stated, "McKesson's commitment to our nation's military is genuine, and our impact cannot be underestimated. We will continue to support active duty troops through programs such as Operation Gratitude, and we'll continue to provide veterans will job opportunities, to support veteran-owned small businesses, and to provide world class healthcare through our partnership with the Department of Veterans' Affairs and Department of Defense."
McKesson is a proud sponsor of San Francisco Fleet Week. In 2010, McKesson sponsorship provided food and entertainment for more than 4,000 active duty service men and women. McKesson also sponsored a "Welcome Home" event in March 2010 for a Marine Corps helicopter unit returning from Afghanistan. Employees from the McKesson Military Resource Group joined employees from McKesson's Sacramento Automated Refill Center and the Sacramento, Southern California, Denver and Honolulu distribution centers to raise funds for the cause.
In addition to McKesson sponsorships, the company has also partnered with the Department of Veteran Affairs (DoVA) to advance one of its top policy goals - increasing opportunities for veteran-owned and service disabled veteran-owned small businesses. McKesson presently contracts with more than 100 veteran-owned small business suppliers and further facilitates the growth of VOSBs and SDVOBs by participating in the DoVAs Mentor-Protégé program.
