McKesson recognized for reducing risk in healthcare software development
San Francisco, CA, September 27, 2012—McKesson, one of the nation’s largest healthcare services companies, today announced that it ranked 34 on this year’s InformationWeek 500 – a list of the top technology innovators in the U.S.
McKesson was recognized for its development and strategic utilization of the proprietary Product Risk Management for the Enterprise (PRiME) technology framework, a program for identifying and managing business risk within healthcare IT product development activities. McKesson’s PRiME framework implementation focuses on effectively mitigating the business risk directly associated with the development of healthcare software products.
“It is an honor for McKesson to be recognized as an innovator in healthcare and one of today’s top technology leaders,” said Randy Spratt, chief information officer and chief technology officer, McKesson. “This ranking further validates our focus on reducing risk for the healthcare industry. Ultimately, McKesson’s solutions help our customers achieve better business performance while improving the health of the patients they serve.”
McKesson’s PRiME framework implementation provides a purpose-built self-assessment capability to consistently measure the overall quality of healthcare software products. The PRiME framework eliminates silos in the development process, while allowing for enhanced transparency into product portfolios from a risk perspective. The framework also enables the delivery of healthcare software products in compliance with industry standards and government regulatory mandates. With the PRiME framework, McKesson is able to provide better business health for its customers, leading to better patient outcomes and ultimately, a stronger healthcare system.
“The InformationWeek 500 has recognized the most innovative users of business technology for 24 years, and this year’s innovations were particularly impressive,” said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. “What the editors looked for are unconventional approaches – new technologies, new models, new ways of grabbing business opportunities and solving complex business problems with IT.”
InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation’s most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments, and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. Past overall winners include PACCAR Inc., The Vanguard Group, CME Group, National Semiconductor, Con-Way, and Principal Financial Group. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
