McKesson's Pharmaceutical Purchasing Program will help state, county and city-funded pharmacies find savings and immediate benefits
SAN FRANCISCO, November 13, 2012— The National Intergovernmental Purchasing Alliance Company (National IPA), a cooperative purchasing organization, has signed an agreement with McKesson Corporation to deliver greater cost savings, order accuracy and operational efficiencies to government purchasing groups. State, county and city-funded pharmacies can enroll in McKesson’s Pharmaceutical Purchasing Program, which is uniquely tailored to help them achieve their pharmacy goals.
McKesson’s Pharmaceutical Purchasing Program includes comprehensive formulary coverage and savings on generic products, breadth of branded and generic products on contract, and access to real-time pricing and resources. In 2009, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania established the Pharmaceutical Purchasing Program with McKesson. As a result, the Commonwealth saved more than $2 million on its $20 million annual pharmaceutical budget. In addition, the Commonwealth realized benefits including:
- Increased service levels
- Easy-to-access online-ordering system
- Real-time inventory and reporting
- Competitive pricing and industry-leading rebates on generics
- Access to medication safety-focused newsletters, new drug reviews and other clinical-support tools
“McKesson’s depth of knowledge and breadth of solutions will allow us to serve participants with a program that will translate to real savings,” said Ken Heckman, vice president, National IPA. “We are committed to helping agencies maximize their opportunities to capture value financially, operationally and clinically. Our partnership with McKesson reinforces our commitment.”
“In today’s environment of financial challenges, it’s critical that those running a government-funded pharmacy leverage the best available resources and solutions to help them deliver hard savings and high-quality patient care,” said Jim Walsh, senior vice president, McKesson U.S. Pharmaceutical. “Hospital pharmacies across the country are partnering with McKesson to identify additional savings. Our Pharmaceutical Purchasing Program makes it easier for government-funded pharmacies to take advantage of our solutions and services as well to attain greater savings.”
