New system aims to enhance quality care and continue medical education, benefitting patients and practices
GOSHEN, IN and THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS, June 6, 2013 - Radiation Oncology Resources, Inc. (ROR) announced today a multi-year agreement with McKesson Specialty Health to implement a proprietary Radiation Oncology Quality System (ROQS℠) Program at practices across the country that are affiliated with The US Oncology Network.
The US Oncology Network, supported by McKesson Specialty Health, is one of the nation's largest networks of community-based oncology physicians dedicated to advancing cancer care in America. This landmark agreement with ROR will establish a network-wide treatment planning quality system for professional clinicians who are responsible for the day-to-day planning and delivery of radiation therapy to cancer patients. This collaboration with ROR furthers The US Oncology Network's commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.
"At our core, we believe in creating opportunities to harness and optimize the power of the professional clinician. Ultimately, our mission is to improve patient care by decreasing or eliminating variability in radiation therapy. This is accomplished through a personalized, objective benchmarking and best practices program focused on measuring and improving treatment planning and contouring quality," said Greg Robinson, Vice President of Clinical Services at ROR. "We are excited to collaborate with The US Oncology Network to provide the ROQS program to its affiliated professional planners, and to facilitate a system-wide continual improvement program."
ROR is a leading provider of radiation therapy treatment planning services and technology solutions focused on objectively measuring, benchmarking and identifying specific opportunities for improvement. The ROQS Program defines a quality improvement process based on benchmarking treatment planning and contouring, while unifying clinical best practices.
That means treatment planners with practices in The US Oncology Network will now have the opportunity to systematically improve their contouring and treatment planning for radiation therapy by being measured against a qualified body of their peers. In the process, each clinician will receive distinct, one-to-one guidance through the ROQS program.
ROR has developed a proprietary web-based interface to better manage and connect ROQS participants with in-house ROR Specialists. A powerful plan quality analysis software application, Quality Reports [EMR], provides objective feedback through customized reports, highlighting strengths and potential areas of improvement for every ROQS participant.
"The most important technology in a cancer center is the clinician. With ROQS, clinics are able to validate and continually improve the skills of their treatment planners," Robinson added. "Equally important? Clinicians can maximize the power of today's treatment modalities - this will not only solidify the investment in the clinical staff, but also have compelling benefits for the patients they serve."
"We are extremely excited by this collaboration which integrates well with our patient care quality goals," said Jeff Limmer, DABR, Director of Medical Physics & Treatment Planning at McKesson Specialty Health. "This project is part of an ongoing effort to encourage life-long learning and enhance quality care for the benefit of both patients and practices. Specifically, this effort supports efficient, high-quality contouring and plan creation throughout The US Oncology Network."
