McKesson Specialty Health EHR recognized for strong performance by industry-leading research firms: Black Book Rankings and KLAS

The Woodlands, Texas (March 3, 2014) — For the third consecutive year, iKnowMedSM, an electronic health record (EHR) developed in collaboration with oncologists and supported by McKesson Specialty Health, has been named the top-ranked EHR for oncologists and hematologists by Black Book Rankings, a division of the Brown-Wilson Group, an unbiased source for polling, surveys and market research.

“iKnowMed once again is being recognized as the leader in the functionality areas most important to community oncology practices,” said Mark Sitarik, M.D., oncologist with Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers and medical director of Technology with The US Oncology Network and McKesson Specialty Health. “The oncology-specific expertise of the McKesson Specialty Health iKnowMed team is unmatched by other vendors. No one else in the marketplace provides their level of clinical support, while integrating into the workflow for community oncology.”

Black Book annual rankings are compiled based on feedback from EHR users across 18 performance criteria, including overall performance, innovation, training and customer support. iKnowMed was recognized for its superior focus on meeting the unique needs of community-based oncology practices. More than 22,000 practice management, physician leaders, and other users including IT specialists and front-line implementation veterans, were invited to participate in the 2014 annual Black Book Rankings survey. iKnowMed received “overwhelming satisfaction” rankings in all 18 key performance areas and achieved the highest rating in 11 of the 18 performance areas, including Best of breed technology and process improvement, Innovation, and Integration and interfaces.

In addition, iKnowMed was rated as the leading medical oncology EHR for workflow automation, chemotherapy automation, treatment flow sheets, pharmacy automation and oncology-specific patient portal functionality in Oncology 2013: Eyes Wide Open, November 2013, a comprehensive report from KLAS, an independently owned and operated healthcare industry research firm that features in-depth analysis of leading Oncology IT systems based on provider opinions. Based on survey feedback from oncology practices over the last year, iKnowMed was highlighted for its integration with complementary technologies including the oncology-specific patient portal My Care PlusSM and top performance in chemotherapy automation and pharmacy interface with Lynx Mobile® inventory management functionality.

According to the KLAS report, 100 percent of iKnowMed customers surveyed said that iKnowMed is part of their long term plans.

“It’s important to make healthcare technology accessible, interoperable and personalized to increase efficiencies in the clinic, allowing providers to spend more time with their patients,” said Dan Lodder, vice president of Technology Sales and Portals for McKesson Specialty Health. “We are pleased that iKnowMed continues to be recognized in the industry as a high-quality solution that allows physicians to more easily care for their patients.”

Currently, iKnowMed and iKnowMed Generation 2 are implemented in more than 550 sites of care nationwide and used by 1,400 providers. iKnowMed Generation 2, a web-based EHR developed in collaboration with oncologists in The US Oncology Network, builds upon the robust, oncology-specific electronic health record features of iKnowMed. This next generation EHR was developed to meet the unique needs of community-based oncologists and was engineered with the latest interoperability standards in mind, so information may be exchanged with other electronic systems that have and need patient care details, including other EHR systems at collaborating practices and hospitals.

iKnowMed Generation 2 integrates the advanced capabilities of the next generation EHR with other advanced healthcare technology modules. Integrated modules include Clear Value PlusSM - an integrated software solution for Clinical Quality and Regimen Support; My Care Plus, which provides more than 56,000 enrolled patients secure, online access to their health records; Lynx Mobile technology for Inventory and Purchasing Management; and TotalViewSM Generation 2 a technology for Revenue Cycle Reporting. Together, this best-in-class technology platform is designed to help practices deliver high-quality, safe patient care, advancing a practice’s ability to deliver an integrated care experience for both patients and their comprehensive care-giving team.

“It is our priority to build upon the superior performance of iKnowMed and continue improving, so physicians have the latest technology to further enhance the care they deliver to patients,” Lodder concluded.
