May 31, 2014

Greater than 90% of physicians using iKnowMed successfully attested to Meaningful Use in 2013 and earned more than $28 million in combined incentive payments since 2011

The Woodlands, Texas (May 31, 2014) — iKnowMedSM EHR (version 6.6.0), iKnowMed Generation 2 (version 2.0), and My Care PlusSM patient portal (version 3.0), oncology-specific products of McKesson Specialty Health, are all “Meaningful Use-ready” and have received 2014 Edition Complete EHR Certification. Combining the advanced technology of McKesson Specialty Health with expertise from physicians in The US Oncology Network, this oncology-specific suite of technology products provides unique support for clinicians and their patients.

Tested and certified under the Drummond Group's Electronic Health Records Office of the National Coordinator Authorized Certification Body (ONC-ACB) program, iKnowMed EHR, iKnowMed Generation 2 and My Care Plus are 2014 Edition compliant in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Providers using certified EHR products can demonstrate Meaningful Use in 2014 and beyond and qualify for incentive payments while avoiding penalties under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

“Our 2014 Edition Meaningful Use certified products assist clinicians in providing the most advanced care to their patients through increased patient engagement, care coordination and clinical decision support,” said Jeffrey Kao, chief information officer, McKesson Specialty Health. “By incorporating the latest interoperability standards into our next generation healthcare technology products, we can improve information exchange with other electronic systems that have and need patient care details, including other EHR systems at collaborating practices and hospitals.”

Providing excellent Meaningful Use support for community-based oncology practices has been a top priority for the iKnowMed EHR team. In 2013, greater than 90 percent of physicians using iKnowMed successfully attested for Stage 1 Meaningful Use, earning them and their practices more than $28 million in combined incentive dollars since 2011. To help physicians and their staff meet Meaningful Use, McKesson Specialty Health offers staff support, project management tools and educational materials that assist users in navigating needed workflow changes. As providers enter Stages 1 or 2 of Meaningful Use in 2014, McKesson Specialty Health will continue to support their users in meeting the heightened requirements.

“I am pleased with the support the iKnowMed team provided to me and my practice. With their assistance, we were able to meet Stage 1 requirements quickly and efficiently as well as maximize the available incentives, benefiting the practice, but more importantly, our patients,” said Yoosaf Abraham (Abe), chief operating officer, Cancer Center of Kansas. “With the team’s support, I know we will be able to meet Stage 2 requirements and implement new technologies to benefit patients, including a patient portal that will improve our ability to engage with patients online.”

To support users with heightened Stage 1 and 2 requirements that require providers to engage patients digitally, iKnowMed EHR and iKnowMed Generation 2 users leverage the My Care Plus patient portal, which currently provides more than 75,000 enrolled patients with secure, online access to their health records. The patient portal gives patients the ability to easily share information with their providers, caregivers and family members; plus, view lab results, send secure messages to their providers and access educational resources specific to their condition and treatment.

iKnowMed and iKnowMed Generation 2 were developed in collaboration with oncologists to meet the unique needs of cancer patients and have been implemented in more than 550 sites of care nationwide and used by 1,400 providers. iKnowMed Generation 2 builds upon the robust, oncology-specific electronic health record features of iKnowMed, which was named the top ranked EHR for oncologists and hematologists by Black Book Rankings for three consecutive years.
