Solution Center wins Big Business category after rigorous selection process.

Scottsdale, Arizona (February 17, 2016) – McKesson Specialty Health announced that its Reimbursement, Access & Safety Services Solution Center has been awarded the prestigious Sterling Award in the Big Business category from the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce. The Sterling Award, which the Chamber has presented for the past 30 years, is one of the most coveted business awards in the Scottsdale area, with a rigorous application, judging and selection process. The award for the Big Business category is given to an organization with 100 or more employees that makes a significant impact on the economic fabric of the community, as well as the lives of its employees. McKesson’s Solution Center administers programs on behalf of manufacturers that provide support to physicians prescribing their medications and to the patients taking the medications for complex and chronic diseases.

“The Sterling Award validates the success of our ongoing efforts to be a good corporate citizen in the Scottsdale community, as well as provide an excellent working environment where our employees can succeed and flourish,” said William P. Nolan, vice president & general manager, Reimbursement, Access & Safety Services for McKesson Specialty Health. “Our company’s ICARE (Integrity, Customer-First, Accountability, Respect and Excellence) core values were the driving force throughout the application process. Judges visited our facility and witnessed our ICARE values in action. That’s what makes this recognition even more rewarding.”

The Sterling Award is the culmination of a long and rigorous selection process. Four teams of judges each conduct an initial review of all applications and narrow the field to three finalists in each category. Applicants are judged on values and goals, company culture, uniqueness, contributions to the community, creativity and innovation, adaptability, and evidence of success, among other criteria. Once the finalists are identified, the judging teams visit those companies to conduct a personal interview and receive a behind-the-scenes look at the company. Each judge then independently determines points for the finalists based on their embodiment of the award criteria, and the points are tallied to determine the winner.

The McKesson Specialty Health Solution Center offers single gateway programs for reimbursement hotlines, patient assistance programs, distribution services and other healthcare customer support services for more than 300 products annually. It helps patients and providers navigate the complexities of the healthcare system by delivering insurance reimbursement answers, access to sources that provide free medication and financial assistance for medications, and safer drug access through the Solution Center’s programs, expertise, technology and personalized service. The Solution Center supports single and multi-drug programs for therapies in oncology, rheumatology, vaccines, and many other therapeutic areas. The state-of-the-art facility utilizes sophisticated support technology, infrastructure and best practices to optimize operational efficiencies, quality, and patient access to therapy.

“I’m extremely proud to be a McKesson employee,” said Ruthymae Liggins, manager of Reimbursement Operations for McKesson Specialty Health. “Our work is aimed at improving the lives of patients. It’s humbling to be recognized for making a difference in the community and knowing that we matter to the people around us.”

The Solution Center has a workforce of more than 1,200 and consistently creates seasonal jobs for hundreds of outside workers annually, significantly contributing to the Scottsdale area economy. In addition to the Sterling Award, for the past seven years the Solution Center has earned the prestigious Center of Excellence certification from BenchmarkPortal, one of the most coveted awards in the customer service and support industry.

“The Sterling Award is a direct result of the culture we foster that supports a shared commitment to leadership,” said Kim Anderson, vice president of Operations for the Solution Center. “We strive to empower our employees to succeed and lead in our organization, as well as in their personal lives and within the community where we live and work. The Sterling Award embodies the very essence of our culture, as it was driven by our dedicated employees who completed the application, assumed a leadership role, and took ownership of the entire process.”
