Mitul Gandhi, M.D., complements the VCS world-class care team, broadening expertise in lymphoma

Fairfax, Va. (March 3, 2015) — Virginia Cancer Specialists (VCS), Virginia’s premier cancer care center with 40 years of service to patients battling cancer and blood diseases, has added a new medical oncologist to the practice. Mitul Gandhi, M.D., joined VCS on February 2. The addition of Dr. Gandhi, who has a special interest in lymphoma, strengthens the practice’s wide range of expertise in all cancer types and positions the practice to better meet the increasing demand for advanced cancer care services throughout Northern Virginia.

“Dr. Gandhi’s excellent education, intensive training and experience in treating a wide range of cancers bring new depth, expertise and ideas to our practice, as well as the local medical community,” said Linda Anderson, executive director, VCS. “We are constantly striving to add highly qualified, like-minded physicians to our practice to ensure we can meet the growing needs of our patients. Dr. Gandhi shares our vision of providing patient-centered, cutting-edge integrated care, and we look forward to the many contributions he will make in advancing cancer care within our practice.”

Dr. Gandhi earned his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he received the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Research Award, among other honors. He then completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at University of Michigan Health System.

Most recently, Dr. Gandhi served as Chief Fellow in the Medical Oncology and Hematology Fellowship program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. While at Northwestern, he actively participated in clinical research, with a focus on high risk lymphoma. He has presented at major national meetings, won the American Society of Hematology’s Abstract Achievement Award in 2013, and published several articles in prominent cancer-related publications including a recent article in the journal Blood on double hit lymphomas. Dr. Gandhi is currently an Associate Member of both the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

“Virginia Cancer Specialists is the preeminent cancer treatment leader in the region with a strong commitment to providing the very latest treatment therapies and technologies,” said Dr. Gandhi. “As a cancer specialist, it is important for me to know that my patients will have convenient access to cutting-edge treatments and supportive care programs that can provide optimal outcomes while giving them the best possible experience during their cancer journey. VCS is dedicated to doing everything they can to help patients beat their disease, and I am very excited to join this world-class facility.”
