Breast Cancer Specialist Dr. Robin Kovachy rejoins RMCC; Dr. Lillian Klancar brings general oncology and hematology, lung and breast cancer expertise

Greenwood Village, Colo. (January 12, 2015) – Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers (RMCC), Colorado's largest and most comprehensive provider of cancer care throughout the state and an affiliate of The US Oncology Network, has enhanced its community-based care network in south Denver by adding two medical oncologists and their Greenwood Village treatment center to the practice. Robin Kovachy, M.D., and Lillian Klancar, M.D., joined Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers on January 1, 2015. Both physicians will continue to treat patients and provide chemotherapy infusion services at their current facility in Greenwood Village, which is now part of RMCC. The addition of this clinic expands RMCC’s statewide network to 19 community-based locations.

“By adding Drs. Kovachy and Klancar and their treatment facility to our practice, we gain the expertise of two highly skilled medical oncologists, in addition to a new treatment location in Greenwood Village,” said John Fleagle, president, Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers. “This helps us meet the growing demand for our services in south Denver by providing another convenient RMCC treatment center that can offer timely access to quality care.”

Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers is a pioneer in delivering community-based care, which provides a high-quality, cost-effective, more convenient alternative to hospital care. Independent healthcare providers offer advanced treatments that maximize convenience to patients at a lower cost in facilities that are close to home.

Dr. Kovachy is no stranger to RMCC, having previously been part of its Littleton practice for many years before leaving in 2008. Highly respected and well known in the Denver medical community, Dr. Kovachy has been in practice for more than 32 years and specializes in breast cancer. She received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.

“I am excited to rejoin Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, and I look forward to being part of a physician-led organization once again,” said Dr. Kovachy. “We share a common vision of providing patients convenient community access to advanced treatments that offer the best potential for optimal outcomes, and I am anxious to once again be part of this dedicated team of cancer specialists,” she noted.

Dr. Klancar is a graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine where she completed her residency as well as part of her Hematology-Oncology fellowship. She completed her fellowship at University of Alabama in Birmingham. She specializes in general oncology and hematology, lung, and breast and is board certified in Medical Oncology.

“Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers’ commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care is well known in the cancer community, and I look forward to collaborating with these like-minded, highly skilled cancer specialists,” said Dr. Klancar. “The resources we gain by joining RMCC and The US Oncology Network will be invaluable to us as we continue our mission to provide each patient the best possible experience and outcome.”

In addition to treating patients in the Greenwood Village office, Drs. Kovachy and Klancar will provide valuable input into the development of an innovative medical oncology sub-specialty treatment model RMCC’s south Denver division is piloting for specific disease types. With the vast amount of new cancer data released each year and the complexity of cancer and its treatments, sub-specialty treatment models help ensure patients receive the very latest cutting-edge treatment options that offer optimal outcomes. Given the in-depth knowledge and expertise of both physicians in their areas of interest, their contributions will be significant in bringing the comprehensive model to fruition.

By joining RMCC, Drs. Kovachy and Klancar become part of The US Oncology Network, providing them access to promising advanced treatments for their patients, as well as many other services to enhance patient care, treatment options and operational efficiency. They also gain access to industry-leading evidence-based treatment pathways―Value Pathways powered by NCCN®―to identify precise, clinically proven treatment options that are the most effective for the majority of patients. Additionally, they have new opportunities to collaborate with an expanded physician community, including network-wide physician committees and conferences, and The Oncology Portal, where approximately 1,000 physicians can share best practices and collaborate on complex cases.
