Retina practices gain cost savings and efficiencies with enhanced vial serialization and scanning in inventory management

IRVING, TEXAS, November 27, 2018McKesson, an industry leader in services and technologies that advance community-based healthcare, announced that Lynx®, its customizable, cloud-based medication inventory management system for specialty medical practices, has new features designed especially for delivering injectable medication therapies in retina practices. These significant customizations for retina specialists ensure that each vial of injectable specialty drugs is accounted for from procurement through dispensing and billing.

Based on input from more than 20 leading providers from practices across the U.S., McKesson developed key retina-specific features, now available in Lynx for Retina Specialists. Enhancements include advanced vial serialization, which allows practices to track product flow through a fully automated drug lifecycle, and reporting capabilities that are customizable to fit each practice’s workflow needs.

Lynx is the first solution to leverage the DSCSA-mandated 2D data matrix labeling that appears on biopharmaceutical packaging. For retina practices that elect to track their inventory at the serialized vial or syringe level, this capability mitigates the need for physical labeling by practice clinical staff, reducing human error and driving improvements in drug capture accuracy and workflow efficiencies.

“Lynx is leading the way with a retina-specific solution co-developed with leading providers and designed to improve patient care, inventory management and injection reimbursement efficiency,” said Jennifer Waters, vice president of ophthalmology sales, McKesson. “Retina practices nationwide are using Lynx to improve practice workflow and financial success.”

With more than 1,100 successful implementations, Lynx team members are experts in a variety of specialty practice workflows. They are committed to providing superior service and support for community-based providers with high patient volumes.

“Our transition to the Lynx inventory management system was seamless,” said David Gavin, practice administrator, Palmetto Retina Center. “The Lynx implementation team provided robust support during our go-live, and we continue to receive unparalleled service from the support team. We have been able to reduce inventory, reduce the time it takes to dispense drugs to patients and save time transferring drugs between offices. The Lynx reporting function provides a wide variety of financial and analytical reporting that is very useful throughout the inventory management process. The billing accuracy report identifies all billing errors. Overall, we have been very pleased with Lynx.”

Since 2005, Lynx has delivered operational, financial and care efficiencies for specialty practice infusible and injectable inventory. It is used by more than 3,100 physicians in over 450 practices across the U.S.
