At McKesson, we’re working to create healthier communities, one step at a time. We believe that the collaboration and compassion of our people can create change. By partnering with local organizations and changemakers, we harness the generosity and engagement of our people to improve care for those who need it most.

As an impact-driven organization, one of the ways we do this is by hosting Community Impact Days (CID), our largest annual company-wide employee engagement activation in the U.S. and Canada.

This year, with the theme “Advancing Health Outcomes Through Food Access,” our employees united to make an impact in our communities.

Why We Host CID

Led by the Global Impact Organization (GIO), CID invites employees from offices, distribution centers and remote locations to participate in activations that align with our purpose of Advancing Health Outcomes for All®. No matter where our employees are located, CID offers an opportunity to connect with colleagues, give back to our communities and reinforce the values that drive our work every day.

How it Became an Annual Activation

CID began over 27 years ago as a grassroots initiative at our previous headquarters location in San Francisco. Initially focused on cancer support, the program quickly expanded across North America, becoming our hallmark employee activation. Its continued growth was fueled by strong employee participation, leadership support and a shared commitment to value-based impact. Over the years, the initiative has evolved to reflect broader themes of health and wellness, and we have added new elements to engage employees along the way.

This Year’s Impact

In support of this year’s theme, employees participated in community impact activations that supported one of the most critical drivers and outcomes of wellness and health: nutritious food. Our initiatives included assembling healthy meal kits and providing educational resources for healthy eating. These efforts aimed to increase access to food and promote the health benefits of good nutrition. Throughout CID, we achieved the following:

47,530

We assembled 47,530 healthy food packs.

~170k

We provided approximately 170,000 meals* for our neighbors in need.

60+

We supported over 60 community organizations across North America.

1,600+

We had over 1,600 participants join our virtual education series.

Additionally, McKesson leadership teamed up with HHM Health CEO Brian A. Hawkins, MHA, to support the opening of HHM Health’s new dental clinic and distribute some of the healthy food packs to local residents. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, HHM Health plays a vital role in expanding access to care, and our leaders helped bring this new space to life with fresh paint and vibrant artwork that will welcome patients for years to come. The clinic also includes a McKesson-supported pharmacy, providing essential resources to individuals and families in the community.

The GIO also engaged partners and customers to host a virtual education series offered to the community. Throughout our six-part series, leaders from across McKesson, including The US Oncology Network, Health Mart, CoverMyMeds and partner organizations shared meaningful insights. The topics included food for health, sustainable nutrition, community food access, culturally healthy nutrition, food and health impact, and practical tools and resources.

Why it Matters

This year, our CID initiatives helped increase access to food and bring awareness to the intersection of health and nutrition. Together, we can make a difference and support advancing health outcomes for all.

*Feeding America defines one meal as approximately 1.2 pounds of food, based on national dietary intake data from the USDA’s What We Eat in America (WWEIA) survey, which is part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). This conversion is used to translate pounds of food into meals across their network. The USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) calculated that the average daily intake is about 3.6 pounds of food per person, which Feeding America divides by three meals to arrive at the 1.2-pound standard.
