McKesson employees are driven by a core set of values: to create healthier communities and, ultimately, to improve people’s lives. But these values aren’t limited to serving our customers and their patients – they also drive us to go above and beyond to support the communities where McKesson employees work and live.
One McKesson team recently exemplified our I2Care values through their volunteerism with a local food bank. McKesson Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) was recently recognized as an Outstanding Corporation by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, receiving a 2023 Volunteerism and Community Service Award for their partnership with Feed More, a food bank that collects, prepares and distributes food to neighbors in need across 34 cities and counties in Central Virginia.
The 2023 Virginia Governor’s Awards on Volunteerism and Community Service is an annual award program that recognizes Virginians and organizations that volunteer their time to make a difference in their communities.
“The resilience, generosity, and commitment of these volunteers exemplify the best of Virginia,” said Governor Youngkin. “It is my pleasure to recognize these honorees for the positive impact they have had in our Commonwealth and in the lives of their fellow Virginians. Each honoree has made an impressive impact in their community and made life better for Virginians.”
Since 2004, Med-Surg has volunteered nearly 10,000 hours of time with Feed More, mobilizing hundreds of teammates to get involved and give back.
Through their service, Med-Surg has:
“The impact of McKesson volunteers is truly significant to Feed More’s mission,” said Mary Samsell, director of grants management at Feed More.
Additionally, the McKesson Foundation awarded a $200,000 grant to Feed More in March 2022, which allowed the organization to modify a school bus to deliver food to children in underserved communities. The retrofitted school bus, named Freddie, has been delivering fresh fruits, veggies and more to kids and teens across Central Virginia ever since.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the governor for our volunteerism and community service, but even more remarkable to see our team’s commitment to our community and passion for making a difference,” said Tammy Cross, senior director of project management, Med-Surg. “Our teammates’ dedication is invaluable and inspiring. It is a testament to the culture and values we bake into everything we do as Team McKesson.”
